Through a recent survey of college students we conducted on the ScholarshipOwl platform, we gained valuable insights into their career goals, salary expectations, and desired workplace perks. Career Goals and Aspirations

  • Diverse Interests: This is not surprising, Gen Z students pursue a wide range of majors, from STEM fields to humanities and arts.
  • High Salary Expectations: Gen Z wants to make money, there is no arguing that. A significant portion of students anticipate earning salaries between $60,000 and $100,000 upon graduation. We would have thought it to be higher.
  • Work-Life Balance: This was surprising. Students prioritize work-life balance and seek flexible work arrangements. Will remote work prevail in 2025? Fun Fact: ScholarshipOwl is a Remote-first company!
  • Social Impact: This isn’t surprising. Gen Z are also called the activist generation. Many Gen Zers are driven by a desire to make a positive impact on society and are interested in careers that align with their values. 

Desired Workplace Perks

  • Remote and Hybrid Work: This generation will want the ability to work remotely or in a hybrid model is a top priority for many students.
  • Professional Development: Gen Z want opportunities for growth, mentorship, and continuous learning are highly valued.
  • Health and Wellness Benefits: Health is number 1 for Gen Z. Comprehensive health insurance, mental health support, and wellness programs are important considerations when looking for their first role after college.
  • Social Impact Initiatives: Involvement in corporate social responsibility programs and opportunities to contribute to social causes.

How Businesses Can Attract and Retain Gen Z Talent

To appeal to Gen Z, businesses must adopt a totally  new approach that aligns with their values and expectations. Here are some key strategies:
